Inspecting Carol is a madcap comedy by Daniel J. Sullivan (written in 1991) that blends Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol with Nikolai Gogol’s classic farce The Government Inspector. It follows a cash-strapped regional theater company desperate for an NEA grant whose members mistake a bewildered, terrible auditioning actor for an undercover funding inspector.
